Background/History:
In the early 1900s, an English expedition explored an ancient Egyptian pyramid
buried beneath the dunes. It appeared to be an abandoned, unfinished project, as
though it’s builders had stopped after completing only the first third of it.
Although the researchers were well intentioned, the tomb was plundered. The
members of the expedition met unfortunate and sometimes grisly deaths as though
they were cursed. The only survivor was Olivia McMillan, the young daughter of
Sir Thomas McMillan, the leader of the ill fated crew. She was only fourteen
years old at the time and entered the tomb with her father. She discovered a
scarab with a multifaceted gem set in gold and pocketed it. Shortly thereafter,
disasters began to occur. Fires, sandstorms, illness, and unexplained
disappearances struck constantly. Her father noticed a pattern to the deaths.
They involved the people that Olivia disliked. He confronted his daughter as
absurd as the notion was to him and she did not even try to deny it. She showed
him the scarab and explained that it let her do many magical things. He
attempted to reason with the child, but to no avail. She had the power to do
whatever she wished and those who had angered her would pay a terrible price. He
tried to take the amulet away from her, but she concentrated and a huge blue
hand appeared and pushed him away from her. She had little control and, in her
panic and rage, smashed him through the wall of the inn and he fell four stories
to the ground to his death. She disappeared that day and her name was added to
the mysterious curse’s list of fatalities. In truth, she fled to master the
abilities of the gem. She found that she had control over energy, matter, and
life energy. She used the gem to remain young and traveled the world acquiring
wealth under assumed names. As she grew older and her control had grown, she
became bored with merely taking what she wanted and donned a costume to become a
super-villian to challenge the heroes. Almost being beaten by Justice, she was
aided by the Attackers and joined their team. Her gem appears to be the
counterpart of the Preserver’s capstone, the gem used by Gem Girl of the
Protectors in the Prime Universe. It is unknown whether the rest of the weapon
exists in this universe.
Personality/Motivations:
A spoiled rich girl, Olivia has no respect for the rights of anyone else and
simply seeks contentment by indulging her every whim. She maintains her
relationship with the Attackers to have someone to watch her back and to keep
them from trying to steal her gem.
