Background/History:
In the early 1800s, Jebediah Coltrane was a train robbing, horse thieving, good
for nothing. When he challenged Marshall Rufus McCoy to a showdown, he fully
intended to die young, knowing he could not outdraw the lawman. As he prepared
for the duel, a strange looking cowboy came to him and offered him a deal. He
claimed to be a demon and, in exchange for Coltrane’s soul, he would give him
a portion of his demonic power ensuring his victory. Coltrane having nothing to
lose, accepted the offer. When he faced the Marshall, they began to count the
walk off, and at the count of one, he turned and shot the McCoy in the back. The
men watching reached for their guns and he mowed them down as well. Being
unbeatable brought him money, but, lacking his soul, made life unbearable. He
found no joy in anything. He settled down and married, but found no peace and
after the birth of his only son committed suicide. The increased strength and
endurance passed from father to son, as did the lawlessness. The more evil the
son, the more strength he seemed to gain. Where Brisco’s forefathers had been
more content to be captains of industry and hide their peculiar abilities, he
gloried in them and took any opportunity to get his hands dirty. He took the
only logical step and became a supervillian, but that brought him into conflict
with heroes who were as powerful as he and they had help, as well. Seeking
assistance with the Union of Peace, he sought out Shatter even as Shatter had
decided to put together a team himself. He became a founding member of the
Attackers and continues his evil ways with them.
Personality/Motivations:
Outlaw is evil, pure and simple. He is motivated by his selfish desires and
willing to do anything to get what he wants. He takes particular pleasure in
terrorizing innocents and ruining people’s hopes and dreams.
